Yucatan on Wheels - rental car tours
Arrival at Cancun International Airport and drive to Playa del Carmen. Accommodation at the hotel Playa del Carmen Hotel by H-n-A. We begin the day with an introduction carried out by our staff that will hand over your travel documents, certificates and tickets to you. They will also answer any questions you might have about Mexico. Accommodation at the hotel Playa del Carmen Hotel by H-n-A. Day 3: Playa del Carmen - Ek Balam - Ditznup - Valladolid (approx. 215 km) Early in the morning you’ll pick up your rental car and your journey through Yucatan can begin. You will have an opportunity to drive from Playa del Carmen to Valladolid. We recommend that you pay a visit to Ek Balam and the Cenote Dzitnup. Accommodation at the Hotel Maria de la Luz. Day 4: Valladolid - Chichén Itzá - Izamal - Mérida (approx. 180 km) From Valladolid you will be driving through Izamal - also known as the "yellow city", since almost all of the buildings there are painted yellow. A catholic church has been built over the highest Mayan temple. Make sure to stop at Chichén Itzá on your way to Mérida. Accommodation at the Hotel del Gobernador. Day 5: Mérida - Uxmal (approx. 80 km) Today you will have the opportunity to explore Mérida, which is famous for its beautiful colonial architecture. In the afternoon, you will visit Uxmal. We recommend that you see the Sound and Light show in the evening. Accommodation at Villas Archeológicas Uxmal. Day 6: Uxmal - Edzná - Campeche (approx. 210 km) The archeological sites of Uxmal und Edzná are known for their sophisticated architecture. Uxmal was one of the greatest and most significant cities on the Yucatan peninsula. In Edzná you will visit "the palace of five stories", a unique building of the Mayan world. Then you’ll continue your drive to Campeche, another jewel of the colonial period. Accommodation at the Hotel Plaza Campeche. Day 7: Campeche - Palenque (approx. 360 km) Early in the morning, you will be going further to Palenque, where you will have a siesta in the swimming pool of your hotel. Afterwards you will discover the Mayan ruins of Palenque. The temple of engraving, the palace and the complexity of the crucifix temple make this visit unique. Accommodation at the hotel Villas Kin-Ha. Day 8: Palenque - Cascadas de Agua Azul - Misol-Ha – Palenque (approx. 120 km) Today you will be inspired by the natural beauty of two big waterfalls, Misol-Ha and Cascadas de Agua Azul. You will stay another night in Palenque. Accommodation at the hotel Villas Kin-Ha. Day 9: Tecan - Chicanná - Xpujil (approx. 360 km) Today you will visit three further Maya sites that represent the "Rio Bec" architectural style. It is very different from the rest of architecture that we will have visited earlier in the excursion. Accommodation at the Hotel Debliz Xpujil. Day 10: Kohunlich - Laguna Bacalar (approx. 135 km) The original name of the archeological site of Kohunlich is not known. In English it is called "Cohume Ridge"- hill covered with cobrush. You’ll continue your journey to Bacalar, the place with the lagune of seven colors. Accommodation at the Hotel Laguna Bacalar. Today you will be able to either take a boat ride in the lagoon or simply swim in the colorful water. Accommodation at the Hotel Laguna Bacalar. Day 12: Bacalar - Tulúm - Playa del Carmen (approx. 270 km) On your way to Playa del Carmen, we recommend that you make a stopover in Tulum. Three sides of this site are surrounded by a fortress; the fourth one is protected by an impressive cliff facing the Caribbean Sea. Afterwards you will drive back to Playa del Carmen, where you can return your rental car. Accommodation at the hotel Playa del Carmen Hotel by H-n-A. Today you can either return to the airport or continue your journey.
